"We are all negotiating the known and unknown at any given moment constantly moving between the two realms. I'm exploring that dance during the making of each work, I'm hoping to form a dissonant relationship between the landscape and graphic forms both related and seemingly unrelated.
In some cases, the color and graphic motifs are drawn directly from the photographs. These graphic elements can represent both modern abstraction but also the astral and energetic realms. The abstract elements represent the unknown, perhaps the graphic shapes and interfaces found on your phone, or the unseen energetic realms of physics or the auric spheres of the astral existing just behind our bodies.
However, the landscapes represent the known, the physical, the spatial, the material, that which we operate within every day. When a print is made, I often feel underwhelmed the prints alone do not feel present enough, therefore I also add dimensional elements to the surface. These circles spheres and lines can be plexiglass or vinyl decals this give the works of physical authenticity that is not initially present in the print. These elements locate the prints in the physical realm, less the illusory thereby projecting a presence and dynamic energy of their own."

Agnieszka Pilat

Biography:

I am a painter, and machines are my subject. I arrange machinery in formal compositions, appropriating traditions ranging from religious iconography to royal portraiture to evoke the power that technology commands in human society today. Like religious icons and royal portrayals of noble ancestry, my paintings conceptually trace the lineage of 21st-century robotics and artificial intelligence back to the steam-powered mechanisms of the Industrial Revolution and the electrification of factories and cities. My paintings reveal a historical continuum, paying tribute to the innovations of James Watt and Nicola Tesla, while also recognizing humanity’s legitimate fears of automation. These machines are preemptively posing for their place in museums of the future, provoking us to preemptively consider the trajectories they embody.

Kenneth Aronson

Kenneth Aronson created Hell.com at the emergence of www, a controversial art website that was seminal to web and art use. Hell.com was an enigmatic and exclusive website and art project that existed from the mid-1990s until the mid-2010s. It was known for its cryptic and elusive nature, as the content was intentionally obscure and typically only accessible to a select group of people, often by invitation only. The site was often compared to an “internet speakeasy,” a place for creative digital expression that remained largely hidden from the general public. The exact nature of the content of Hell.com varied over time, but generally included experimental and abstract digital art, interactive experiences, and other forms of non-traditional online content. In addition to being a platform for digital art, Hell.com was also known for hosting occasional live events and exhibitions. The website was created by Kenneth Aronson, who also served as its primary curator and host. Aronson worked with various artists and creators over the years to populate Hell.com with unique content. The website was controversial for some, especially those who believed that it was a waste of a potentially valuable domain name. Regardless of these controversies, Hell.com stood as an iconic example of the potential for avant-garde expression in the digital realm. It is remembered as a piece of internet history that symbolized an era of online creativity and mystery.

Mark Estes is an engineer who has undergone a remarkable evolution, transitioning from the structured world of engineering to the boundless realm of artistic expression. His journey has been defined by a relentless pursuit of creativity, which is evident not only in his impressive track record of securing over 90 US patents but also in his transformation into a visionary artist.

A natural "maker" at heart, Mark has always possessed an innate curiosity about the potential to create something from nothing. Fueled by this passion, he embarked on a personal exploration of electronics, micro-controllers, and fabrication techniques, teaching himself these disciplines to unlock new avenues of self-expression. Through diligent experimentation and a relentless dedication to honing his craft, Mark discovered the powerful fusion of technology and artistry, finding his voice in the ethereal medium of code.

Beginning with the simplest building blocks of illumination, Mark's artistic journey began with single LEDs. As his proficiency grew, he embarked on a captivating progression, seamlessly transitioning to working with LED strips, grids, and ultimately, expansive matrix panels. These meticulously arranged matrices became his canvas, offering him a dynamic platform to articulate his artistic vision.

Software, with its infinite possibilities, became Mark's trusted tool, allowing him to paint with pixels and sculpt with light. Through intricate algorithms and carefully crafted code, he breathes life into his creations, each stroke and gesture manifesting in mesmerizing patterns of vibrant illumination. The marriage of technology and artistic intuition in Mark's work creates a profound synergy, blurring the lines between art and innovation.

In each meticulously crafted artwork, Mark Estes invites the audience to partake in his extraordinary journey. With a blend of technical precision and artistic sensibility, he pushes the boundaries of traditional artistic mediums, creating a unique sensory experience that stirs emotions, evokes wonder, and challenges preconceived notions of what art can be. Through his mesmerizing matrixes and the boundless realm of software, Mark's artistic voice echoes, beckoning us to witness the harmonious convergence of technology and creativity.

Mark's artistic prowess has garnered recognition and acclaim, earning him the privilege of showcasing his work in prestigious galleries and institutions. His pieces currently grace the walls of the Tracy Park Gallery and the Compound Contemporary Gallery. He has had recent shows at Gallery 825.laaa.org/, the Robert Berman Gallery at Bergamot Station, and the Topanga Canyon Gallery in Topanga Canyon. Art Squat magazne recently published an interview with the artist. This recognition is a testament to the profound impact of Mark's art, captivating viewers with its immersive beauty and bridging the gap between the realms of engineering and art.
