ROBERT BERMAN GALLERY is pleased to present their Annual Group MOPLA Month of Photography-Los Angeles exhibition at their B7 Gallery at Santa Monica's Bergamot Station Art Center. As a participating gallery of MOPLA, ROBERT BERMAN GALLERY will exhibit a vibrant selection of photography from both up and coming and established contemporary artists. This group exhibition will feature works by gallery artists: Jeff Charbonneau & Eliza French, John Colao, Christopher Felver, Marc Fichou, Sharon Johnson-Tennant, Lauren Marsolier, Cristina Maxwell, Marla Rutherford and Dietrich Wegner.
Included highlights for this year’s selection are two series by Los Angeles artists Karen Bystedt and John Valadez. Karen Bystedt will be presenting her engaging THE LOST WARHOLS portfolio - a series of photographs depicting the iconic Andy Warhol in 1982, captured five years prior to his untimely death in1987. Bedecked in a Perry Ellis sports coat, navy blue shirt and red tie, Warhol is depicted in a spirited fashion and is as engaging and fresh as his now infamous silkscreen Factory works.
John Valadez, a Los Angeles Chicano muralist, painter and photographer brings to MOPLA his series of portraiture depicting late 1970’s Chicana’s and Chicano’s. These works were recently exhibited in Valadez’s first retrospective at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, “Santa Ana Condition: John Valadez 1976 to 2011.” Valadez was also featured at the Muesum of Latin American Art in their recent exhibition “MEX/LA: Mexican Modernism(s) in Los Angeles 1930-1985.”
A special addition to the MOPLA Group Exhibition is a Jean Clemmer (1926-2001) retrospective in the B7 Gallery Chapel Room curated by Laura Whitcomb. John Clemmer's works will feature the photographer’s long time collaborations between the artist Salvador Dali and the sculpture to wear designer Paco Rabanne. Clemmer's exhibition will feature the tableaux vivants made in the early sixties at Dali's home of Port Lligat as well as the 'Metamorphosis' collage series, which they created together. Nues will feature Clemmer's photographs of nude women of varying ethnicity from his renowned collaboration with Paco Rabanne. This will be the first retrospective combining Clemmer's most significant collaborations, which secured his legacy as one of the most prolific erotic fashion photographers of the 60's.
