Mr Fish: We Are Not Alone

Dwayne Booth (Mr. Fish) is a cartoonist and freelance writer whose work can most regularly be seen on Harpers.org and Truthdig.com.
He has been a cartoonist and freelance writer for twenty years, publishing under both his own name and the penname of Mr. Fish with many of the nation’s most reputable and prestigious magazines, journals and newspapers. In addition to Harper’s Magazine and Truthdig.com, his work has appeared in The Los Angeles Times, The Village Voice, Vanity Fair, Mother Jones Magazine, the Advocate, Z Magazine, the Utne Reader, Slate.com, MSNBC.com and others. He has also published with Information for Social Change (British journal), Internazionale (Italian magazine) and Umanita Nova (Italian newspaper). He was recently the subject of a two-page spread in the Sunday edition of the leading daily independent Croatian newspaper, Novi list, where he was described as Croatia’s favorite American cartoonist, a fact that has never gotten him laid. Not even a little bit.
In both February of 2008 and then again in October of 2008 he was ranked #1 on a list of “the 10 most important voices to listen to this election cycle,” as compiled by Best Life magazine. In May 2008 he was presented with a 1st place award by the Los Angeles Press Club for editorial cartooning. He has placed consistently in the top 3 awards categories at the annual Association of Alternative Newsweeklies since 2007 and plans on winning the Pulitzer Prize soon after the words asshole, bullshit, motherfuckers and lousy cocksuckers are embraced as flattering and sweet-smelling monikers by the Washington and Wall Street elite.
In addition to numerous essays, interviews and critiques, he has written two novels, 9,8,7 and The Prick, two collections of short fiction and cultural criticism, My God is a Junkyard of Other People’s Prayers and Monologues of a Naked Man, and several volumes of political cartoons, including For the Man Who Enjoys a Pipe, Ideas Out the Ass, Bored and Turn Ons: Dangerous men, UFOs and Christianity. He has written two screenplays, The Adventures of Us and John Lennon Wasn’t Here and is currently at work on a graphic memoir about the counterculture called One Complete Revolution.
As the Dwayne half of the musical group Dwayne and Jeff, he has composed music for five CDs, Octopus, Bradley, Cooties in Heavy Syrup, Rubber and Glue and The Other White Meat. Many of the slick moves he has displayed on stage while playing his guitar have been described as “embarrassing.”
He has written, scored and designed the animation for three original television series, A Dog Goes Into a Bar, The Horse’s Mouth and This is Mr. Fish.
