If it’s true, according to Picasso, that “Art is the lie that enables us to realize the truth,” then we are best served by the company of the most formidable artistic liars and the most sublime champions of bullshit on offer from a culture so bereft of genuine honesty and principled integrity as our own – particularly when the lie that we seek conformation of as the truth is this: Our existence is meaningful beyond the delusion that ours is a uniquely brilliant and adorable species that must be protected and advanced in contempt of an indifferent cosmos that seems to believe otherwise and steadfastly refuses to reward our desperately misplaced egomania and narcissism with grace and divinity. In other words, we are likely fucked as a result of a hubris that seems genetically embedded rather than culturally cultivated, so there is cause to rework the quote by Picasso for the sake of clarity and purpose:
Art is the truth that enables us to realize the lies that most jeopardize our comprehension of who we are as a collective and why it might be ridiculous to believe that our individual opinion about what makes us beautiful and special matters beyond pacification.
Thankfully, WE ARE NOT ALONE.
